Diminished hope.
This month previous year,we had been experiencing second leg of the lockdown - one of the most stringent in the world. We were told not to touch the surface as covid has the potential of getting transferred off the surfaces too. We believed in our government and immensely hoped that this would be over rather very soon. Our government had ample time to manage the availability of oxygen and to ramp up the number of ventilators. As expected a few initiatives were taken and we got our indigenous vaccine.Upon getting the vaccine, the programme of inoculation was rolled out very gradually. We were sniffy in permitting the other countries to sell their vaccines in our country.
Then came the still worse part - campaigning for Bengal election which only flared up the situation.
This month we observed the auspicious festival of Kumbh in Haridwar where million of devotees took a holy dip in the river Ganga.Campaigning for Bengal election as well as Kumbh both made the situation worse and acted as superspreaders of this deadly virus. To make the situation still worst oxygen problem has ravaged our country and contributed in enhancing the grievous adversity.Consequently many deaths have been reported in this month and the scenes coming from the various hospitals are very devastating. From early morning to late night all the news outlets who were earlier engaged in the act of subterfuge are now airing the horrendous news of hospitals overwhelmed with corpses and patients affected by this invisible enemy. Our hope has been degenerated.
