Nalanda university - ruination and restoration

Educational institutes aka 'home of the brain' have been a part of India's rich and diverse culture. They house scholars who use education as a tool to change the world. Through their services, educational institutes impart conformity among young minds who on their part hold the key to a bright future. Nalanda university, which attracted scholars from all across the globe, was one of the oldest universities in the world. Famous for its world renowned library, this university was founded by Narasimha Deva around 5th century BC in Bihar. The word 'Nalanda' has its origin in Sanskrit language. Basically, it's a clubbing of three words, Na+alam+Daa, meaning 'giver of knowledge'. Akin to its name, Nalanda university was known for schooling men of letters from across the globe and enjoyed a towering reputation during its time.  Aside from the educational ecosystem, meditation centres and temples were too housed in the campus. It was the embodiment of different...

Let's discuss animals.

Almost every person on the earth knows how to talk to animals though only a few know how to listen to them. Animals are considered as the truest friends of human beings who show unquestioning endearment to us. Think of a person who experienced a terrible day might be at his workplace or probably school or at any random place, the moment he arrives at his doorsteps following all the grim outing, his pet upon getting its owner’s sight just latches onto him showing its indubitable adoration. Such is the genuineness of these amazing creatures that they often place human beings before themselves. They not only display their unshakeable love towards us but also provide us with some basic life values which we seem to be lacking. The most significant lesson we as human beings earn from them is that we should not demand beyond our needs. No animal exceeds hunting beyond its needs. Has there been an animal who’s notoriously known for demolishing its own habitat? The answer is a big no. We ...

Let mankind get rid off racism.

Nose-diving into the newspaper, one’s eyes generally catch hold of one of the pages in the newspaper known for classified stuffs where matrimonial advertisements are discovered commonly. In all such ads, the term which finds solid mentioning is ‘fairer complexion’. The mankind is in 21 st century, and scarcely a year passes without us stumbling upon any new technology or innovation, but its appalling that we still find ourselves deeply entrenched into the vicious trap of racialism. The impreciseness regarding the origin of the word ‘racism’ makes it a bit difficult to interpret it. This word may trace its origin either from Arabic language or Hebrew language. Simply defining racism will have us as someone who is being racist. This belief leads us to the notion that advocating for the classification of human population into groups (races) based on different biological traits. Later on this classification may influence political setup of the concerned place by demanding privileges...

India - the heaven on earth.

‘The World is One Family’ - the noblest of all the verses mentioned in our holy scriptures, is engraved in the entrance hall of Indian parliament, which sums up the uniqueness and distinctiveness of India. When one even thinks of the term ‘India’ a sense of belongingness imbues through the veins of body. The word ‘India’ is synonymous with the term ‘incredible’. India, being one of the oldest civilizations in the world, is not merely a piece of geographical land but a glorious living creature. Indians revere India as their motherland and leave no stone unturned in uplifting the dignity and integrity of this holy land. Since the time immemorial, the entire world has been indebted to India owing to her exceptional contributions in every domain of public life ranging from mathematics to medicine, from culture to communication, to name a few. Had one of the most distinguished mathematicians and astrologers hailing from India, Aryabhatta not discovered ‘zero’ , the entire mathemati...

Mother - the purest soul ever.

Can there be a relationship so wholesome as one between a mother and her beloved offspring? In this adulterated world, where it becomes next to impossible to unearth a relationship which can maintain the wholesomeness of kinship, the relationship between a mother and her children acts as a beacon of hope.  The term 'MOTHER', undeniably the most revered and beatified word across all the literary works, has always pinned uncountable hopes on it. The sacrifice a mother makes by abandoning her 'not-so-significant-sort-of' (in her outlook) aspirations speaks volumes about her altruistic heart. Since the birth of a child, a mother pulls out all the stops in ensuring holistic development of that child. A minor hurt experienced by a child is felt with the same intensity by a mother. If humankind were to pick out a word, exclusively dedicated to mothers, it would be 'IMMORTAL' hands down. An honest present a child can give to his mother for the immeasurable contributions...

The crisis in Sri Lanka.

Indian foreign minister Jaishankar landed in Sri Lanka on last Sunday on his two days official visit to the island nation. There he was scheduled to hold bilateral talks specifically focusing ways to eke out Sri Lanka from the ongoing economic crisis. Sri Lanka is not a newbie to crises. Its history is fully covered with dark chapters of turbulence. Earlier a British colony, the island country got its independence in 1948 after a long struggle of 133 years. Since independence, several countries have set on their eyes upon Sri Lanka, primarily to establish their military base provided its strategic location. The island nation completely lies in Indian Ocean, divided from the Indian subcontinent by Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar.  Formerly known as Ceylon, the country witnessed a civil war stretching from 1983 to 2009 which undid most of the hard earned economic development till date. The unrest following the prolonged civil war, threw the country into tatters. The country had ba...

Uniform Civil Code - Is India all set ?

Winding up party’s electoral campaign, chief minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami made a promise what can be termed as talk of the town sort of stuff, implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. Since, BJP has triumphantly trampled on the anti-incumbency wave, and has become the only party to retain the power consecutively, since the inception of the state, it remains to be seen how the party would fulfill this electoral promise.  Indian constitution speaks about UCC under in Article 44 under PART-IV titled as ‘Directive Principles of State Policy’. In Article 44, constitution creators have used the term “uniform” over “common”. While the former means “the same in similar conditions”, the latter means “one and the same in all circumstances”. It means whatever be the different personal laws in practice; there should be uniformity in law within a particular group. The same constitution guarantees its citizens the fundamental right to profess, practice and propagate the...
